Wetland Wonders
If you owned land around a lake, could you build a house and still protect the water quality? We’ll use special pond nets to catch water critters, compare soil and vegetation to find out just why wetlands are important and how to take care of them.

Register for either the morning session from 9:30-11:30am, or the afternoon session from 12:30-2:30pm

Backyard Bugs
We’ll learn what makes insects special, and just how much we depend on them! You will make a model of a ladybug nymph and show how it grows , use a sweep net to capture and observe insects in the field, play an insect locomotion game and hear a story about bugs.

Who may participate?: 
<p>This performance is geared toward all ages.</p><p>Tickets must be purchased for all adults and children above the age of 5 and any younger children who wish to have their own seats. Lap passes for children under the age of 5 must be reserved directly with Stages Theatre (I am not collecting money for lap passes, but read below, as they are not necessarily free).</p><p>Lap Passes: Free for ages 2 and under, $5 for ages 3 and 4. Lap passes must be reserved by calling Stages Theater @ 952-979-1111. When reserving lap passes, please let them know you are with the Homeschool Adventures group.</p>

Become a hydrologist. Use tablets to test the pond for natural chemicals dissolved in the water. Scoop up water insects with nets and use magnifying glasses to identify them. Discover how pollutants can have harmful effects on both the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Learn about the types of pollutants, their sources, pathways, impacts and strategies to control. Find out how to reduce the impacts on your local watershed. Meet and touch local turtles. Bring a bag lunch. Reservations required.

In the morning imagine you are leaving your home forever and traveling over 5000 miles across the ocean and half a continent to start a new life in a foreign land. Learn about Wendelin Grimm's journey and discover the items many immigrants brought with them on the journey. In the afternoon get hands-on experience of work and play activities typical to life on a late 19th century Minnesota farm. Sign up for a.m., p.m. or both sessions. Reservations required.

Examine the dynamic nature of the earth's surface through hands-on activities. Conduct research on key geological sites around the world, model earth formations such as slip-strike faults and sea floor spreading. Classify rocks and minerals and make crystals. Go on a fossil hunt Oct. 31 with your family and an expert paleontologist.
