Lowry Nature Center, the first public nature center built in the Twin Cities, is a beautiful, prairie-style building nestled in the middle of the Carver Park Reserve. Our staff of Naturalists is dedicated to sharing their knowledge and teaching the importance of environmental stewardship to visitors and participants of our interdisciplinary educational events. The 250-acre interpretive area surrounding the building features hiking trails that weave between diverse habitats, including lakes, tamarack swamps, cattail marshes, oak and maple/basswood forests, and "Habitats," an outdoor education exhibit and play area. Along the trails, visitors might also spot some of the varied wildlife that live in the park, such as beaver, deer, fox, coyote, muskrats, bats, turkeys, or any of the 150 species of birds.
